As the Season Ends, What Grade Should You Give Your AC?

November is here and with its arrival comes the cooler weather. As you get used to the change in seasons, it’s a good time to evaluate the performance of your HVAC in Walnut Creek, CA during the previous summer.

You might be wondering why you should be giving any thought to your air conditioner. After all, it’s November. But with the warmer winters we’ve been having, you may find there are days when you’ll need to switch on the AC.

Assessing how well your air conditioner performed over the summer is a great way to determine if you should schedule repairs or maintenance now. You can assess it by grading its performance and then decide how to proceed to ensure reliable cooling from your AC if you need it this winter.

My AC Is An “A” Student!

Hooray! We’re glad you awarded your air conditioner a gold star for its performance. If it’s still within its estimated service life, then you shouldn’t expect mediocre performance should you need it this winter. We’d be willing to wager that an air conditioner that scores an “A” has received professional maintenance in the spring, which earns you a gold star as well. Keep it up, because the fastest way off the honor roll is to skip regular maintenance.

My AC Earns a Solid “B”

Not bad! You enjoyed comfortable cooling over the summer with no interruptions in service. But a “B” certainly isn’t an “A,” so what’s keeping you from giving your air conditioner the perfect grade? Perhaps you forgot to change the air filter or skipped maintenance. It doesn’t mean it’s time to call us for repairs, but it pays to keep an eye on it in the coming months. It would certainly benefit from routine maintenance.

My AC Gets a “C”

Oh no! An average grade means you know there’s room for improvement. Perhaps you needed a repair over the summer or neglected routine maintenance. If your air conditioner is less than 10 years old, mediocre performance is a sign that it would benefit greatly from a tune-up. If the system is older than 10 years, it’s likely these issues will go from bad to worse. Consider this ho-hum grade a wake-up call to call us and have it checked out before that “C” grade plummets into unacceptable territory.

My AC is Barely Passing With a “D”

Oh, dear! An air conditioner that isn’t making the grade probably needed a costly repair or is struggling to cool your home down properly. If it’s needed frequent repairs or you’re running it constantly, your air conditioner is costing too much to keep around and it’s time to consider a replacement. Your AC definitely needs professional service to see if a repair or replacement is needed.

My AC is Failing

If your AC earns an “F” for failure, give us a call so we can replace your failing air conditioner now before it disappoints you anymore.
